RISE 2024
RISE is a set of indicators to help compare national policy and regulatory frameworks for sustainable energy. It assesses countries’ policy and regulatory support for each of the four pillars of sustainable energy—access to electricity (for 56 access-deficit countries), access to clean cooking (for 57 access-deficit countries), energy efficiency, and renewable energy. Because policies and regulations matter when countries are seeking to attract investment in sustainable energy, and because it covers 140 countries representing over 98 percent of the world population, RISE provides a reference point to help policymakers benchmark their sector policy and regulatory framework against those of regional and global peers, and a powerful tool to help develop policies and regulations that advance sustainable energy goals.

RISE 2022
RISE is a tool for policymakers to compare national policy frameworks for sustainable energy and identify opportunities to attract investment. RISE assesses countries’ policy support for each of the three pillars of sustainable energy – access to electricity, access to clean cooking (for 54 access-deficit countries), energy efficiency, and renewable energy. With over 30 indicators covering 140 countries and representing over 98 percent of the world population, RISE provides a reference point to help policymakers benchmark their sector policy and regulatory framework against those of regional and global peers, and a powerful tool to help develop policies and regulations that advance sustainable energy goals.
Gender and Energy Indicators DatabaseIn 2022, the ESMAP Gender and Energy Program and RISE created a database on gender-related indicators relevant to the energy sector. There remains a lack of comprehensive and up-to-date data and information on gender-related indicators in the energy sector, making it challenging to understand the magnitude of gender gaps, monitor progress on program implementation and inform future policy decisions. The Energy and Gender database has been created to address this issue. The database includes up-to-date data on, among others, energy access, women’s representation in the energy sector, women’s human endowments that impact and are impacted by energy access, gender-responsive policies in the energy sector, for 217 countries.
